Best trilogy ever
In my opinion there are many great trilogies and even more terrible ones. They span everything from fantasy (Lord of the Rings) to comedy (Austin Powers) to action (Bourne). Over the years I've started many trilogies only to never finish them because the first wasn't that good or I was satisfied with what I saw. While I am very excited to see the Bourne Ultimatum this weekend, as of right now my favorite trilogy of all time is still Back to the Future. It's the only full trilogy I own and I feel that each film is completely warranted. Let me know what you think. Quick! Marty the Delorean!

Re: Best trilogy ever
The original Star Wars / Empire Strikes Back / Return of the Jedi will always be the best for me, but I would have to agree that Back to the Future is near perfect as well. I don't know if I would actually call Sergio Leone's and Clint Eastwood's "man with no name trilogy" a real trilogy since it just sort of uses the same character but wasn't really intended to be a trilogy from what I know. But they are great movies. The Mad Max trilogy is kind of fun too. With my favorite being Road Warrior, then Beyond the Thunderdome, then the original. Heh there are actually a couple movies that I have seen that are part of a trilogy and they are really good, but I haven't seen the rest of the movies in the trilogy. As for Dogville, I don't think the last movie has been made yet. However with the Three Colors Trilogy, I have seen Red, and it's so good I don't know why I haven't seen Blue and White yet. There are a few that I eally want to see but are hard to get. Has anyone seen The Apu Trilogy or The Human Condition Trilogy?

Re: Best trilogy ever
The best triology ever is --- despite the fact that the third one sucks so bad I sometimes imagine it was not made yet--- the Terminator movies. Alien--- good also. Julie

Re: Best trilogy ever
love the bourne series, just saw bourne ultimatum yesterday and it just as good as its predecessors;but of course my fave bourne will always be the original bourne identity (2002) Liked back to the future series too, especially back in the 80s whan i was deep fan micheal j. fox also a fan of lars von trier trilogy Dogville, manderlay and the upcoming one Wasington (2009); i liked both dogville and manderlay but like Dogville better because the leading role, nicole kidman is a better actress and looks more fitting for the role compared to bryce dallas of manderlay;High expectations and would love to see Wasington when it comes out in a couple of yrs. Can't wait to see what kind of twisted/disturbing story he has mind for wasington;actually i like just about every lars von trier film i have seen, they are always so sad, tragic or very disturbing

Re: Best trilogy ever
I have actually seen Pather Panchali (1955),but to be honest fell asleep for almost a third of it. I don't know if it was the theater I was in or the actual film that made me so tired. I did actually enjoy parts of the film, I just felt it dragged on way to long. Satyajit Ray became famous for this trilogy and the way he displayed rural indian life. The first film has a sad ending, and from what I've heard the rest of The Apu Trilogy is pretty grim as well.

I don't know if there is an exact definition for a trilogy. Some directors have such a unique style that all their films appear to be similar. Nowadays in Hollywood, a lot of comedies are including overlapping characters and certain actors playing virtually the same character in completely different movies. (Will Ferrel is the number one example of this) I appreciate dedicated trilogies more than films that simply try to pump out what was successful the first time but with a slightly different twist (American Pie). I also think trilogies that start with the intention of being a trilogy are always more successful then film series that pop up simply because the first film was successful.

Re: Best trilogy ever
I obviously have a closer connection to pie than you do. This isn't really a trilogy anyway, if you count Band Camp and Naked MIle, which I do. Just a pie that keeps on giving!

Re: Best trilogy ever
These are the exact type of money making trilogies I'm talking about! I hardly even consider it a trilogy. More like a bad Mtv show.
